I always had a fascination for Northern General as during my youth it's area around Tyneside
was well beyond my usual jaunts. Sadly by the time I was up there
regularly with work it had become scruffy even by NBC standards. Not
only had this once proud Routemaster FPT594C No.2124 been stripped of all brightness
one felt it might not be safe to ride as the curb in Newcastle seemed to be in
use as the hand-brake.
looks like that was taken just to the side of Worswick St bus station. If the brakes were dodgy and had failed that RMF would have ended up on the Central Motorway subway just north of the Tyne Bridge.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct about the location close to the bus station in Worswick Street. Maybe as brass wheel chocks had a habit of going missing the driver of the bus had got used to parking them like this just in case the handbrake did fail on a slope.
