With all the local branding at times it was often hard to guess which NBC company a bus belonged to, and it's only my familiary with numbers which stops me mistaking this Duple Dominant bodied Leyland Leopard in Leeds as a Yorkshire/West Riding coach. West Yorkshire PTE tended to follow the old Leeds Corporation liking for the Atlantean and of course the Fleetline but later deliveries included MCW Metrobus Mark 2's.
I didn't realise the Fastaway brand had survived deregulation.

Sorry Christopher, your first assumption was correct. DAK222V was running on the West Riding/Yorkshire Woollen Fastaway network which linked Leeds with Huddersfield and/or Halifax. Post deregulation the Fastaway network faded away as the stopping services increased in frequency from hourly to 30 minutes then 20 minutes as the old Metro enforced restrictions on carrying local passengers in Leeds Huddersfield and Halifax disappeared. The coach I think originated with SUT hence the South Yorkshire registration.

I've been told 222 belonged to Wypte.
ReplyDeleteNo 222 was new to National Travel East (Sheffield), came to the West Riding group with that operator pre privatisation and was converted to run on the Fastaways when they were introduced. X21 on which it is running was a Heckmondwike operation (Yorkshire Woollen). After the withdrawal of the daytime Fastaways with the enhanced local services 222 passed to fellow Caldaire Holdings company, United of Darlington.
ReplyDeleteDAK 222V operated from Frost Hill (Liversedge) National Travel East Depot from new, and was one of the three coaches used in the 1981 season on the South of France Camper holiday service (the other two being W reg. Plaxton Supreme IV). I drove it regularly on that service.
