Winter Sunlight in Stockton on Tees

One winter's day in 1969 or 1970 I went with my father on a business trip to Darlington where once I's had a good look around I boarded a bus for unfamiliar territory Sockton on Tees. The winter sunlight was not kind so I didn't get very good photographic results but I still like this one of one of my favourites a Northern General Harrington Genadier bodied Leyland Leopard.

  1. A proper market, too, of the sort we rarely get to see any more (but then that's our own fault for deserting those markets for the ease of free parking at the out-of-town Asdabury's).

And look at the length of the queue on the pavement, stretching back from the bus stops further along the street. Bus companies would kill to have that many people waiting nowadays!

  2. You are right Ross we don't appreciate what we've got till we've lost it, of course these sort of street markets have come back into fashion but not for the working classes any more with their expensive cheeses and quiche for the well off into 'Fresh Farm Foods. You never know next even the big supermarkets will be under the cosh as greedy Amazon muscles in undercutting them and all we will get to get from then on is rubbish like 'Muller Rice'.
