Formerly in East Germany Halle is one of those industrial towns one wouldn't normally go to or would have heard of unless you were into tennis as there is an important tournament held there each year. As you can see the classic red and cream Tatra Prague trams were not confined to the Czech Republic but as seen here following Reunification took new but not always nice colours.
Halle has a very good (if small) Christmas market, which I found much more enjoyable than those in Leipzig and Dresden, and a zillion times better than the one at home in Lincoln.
ReplyDeleteIt's also a good option for hotels "near" Leipzig as it tends to be about a third of the price!
Unfortunately the tram museum was closed the weekend I was there two years ago; I guess I'll just have to go back... ;)
Hi Ross, thanks for the information. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of Halle but I think our stop here was so brief I only got a couple of photos. From Berlin we had been out for the day to Leipzig. I bet the bratwurst was a lot more expensive in Lincoln too as British Christmas markets turn cheap snacks into expensive treats.
