Midland Red S23 RHA 937G at Coventry

Amongst the last of the BMMO's remaining in service was this S23 No.5937 at Coventry, once a Leamington bus which spent the last four years till Feb 81 at Rugby.

  1. No BMMO built buses passed to the new Midland Red Companies established in 1981 unlike the DD13s of the same age which were of course more standard yet another factor in the demise eventually of Central Works.

  2. There were of course plenty of other nails in Central Works' coffin, but although it wasn't quite ready to be put in there when the DD13s hit the road, it was certainly taking its final gasping breaths. What was left once building stopped was really just the shadow slowly fading away.

It's actually surprising that enough survived to be resurrected as Carlyle Works and take advantage of the breadvan boom.

  3. As Ross quite rightly says Carlyle Works had one last spike in the breadvan boom and was the original home to Merry Hill Minibuses today part of National Express West West Midlands at Pensnett.
