BUSWORLD PHOTOGRAPHY

I AM CHRISTOPHER LEACH THE ARTIST. I started this blog so that I can share with everyone my vast collection of transport photographs showing a personal and nostalgic view of the industry with images that span some 45 years taking in the U.K and some of Europe. I have no darkroom and so rather than being the perfectionist after tidying them up I upload the images warts and all, and even those that won't scan squarely or are scratched. In a way it adds age and character. You are all free to download these for your personal use but please remember I still own them and you are not just free to use them without prior permission for any knd of publishing. Click on images to enlarge them and if you want to see more leave your comments or visit my website for the mother-site with galleries including those Buses & Girls: PICTUREWORLD

Islwyn East-Lancs Leyland Tiger C42 CKG at Cardiff

Obviously I picked the wrong time of the day to visit Cardiff Bus Station, better to get there first thing in the morning but it was a great place to take photos, so much variety and even in the Nineties. Many of the old operators I remember from the Sixties still called but most had changed both names and livery like this two-tone blue and white Islwyn East-Lancs bodied Tiger which in the old days would have been maroon like much of the other buses found here and run by West Mon which was more memorable to everyone except the 'locals'.

In earlier years route 36 (Cardiff - Tredegar) was operated jointly by Cardiff Corporation (maroon livery), Caerphilly UDC (green livery) and West Mon Board (maroon livery) to an hourly headway over the near two hour journey time route. Later, West Mon became Islwyn Borough Transport, the other operators dropped out and so Islwyn maintained the route using two buses from Blackwood. This led to an uneven headway ranging between hourly and three hours.

Yes I rode on those lovely lowbridge Massey bodied Titans of Caerphilly, being a Massey and Leyland fan this was obvously my favorite Welsh Municipal although Bedwas and Machin were in the same league.
